Born and raised in Aruba, Delbert Bernabela, started his musical career at the age of 15 as a singer where he would participate at several highschool events and and also on national television. Soon hereafter he began studying guitar and playing in schools an concerts. After earning a bachelor’s degree at Berklee College of Music, where he also included saxophone, flute and clarinet in his instrumental arsenal, he returns to Aruba, and founds Muziek School Het Oktaaf, where he would be very active as an educator and clinician, as music minister at the Bible Way Baptist Church and also on the music scene of the island, performing in several restaurants, clubs and concert halls.
Delbert’s performance history includes festivals, concerts, nightclubs, TV commercials and live theater. Delbert is cofounder of the Aruba Art Ensemble and has recorded with several bands He is an educator/clinician, lecturing and performing in colleges, universities and public schools in Aruba, The Netherlands Antilles, Venezuela and the U.S.A., Delbert has performed or shared the stage with Ron Kenoly, Paul Wilbur, Arthuro Sandoval, David Benoit, Herbie Hancock, Nestor Torres, Wayne Shorter, Michael Brecker, Dr. William Carson, Carlos Bislip, Ivan Quandus, Pierre Dunker, Johnny Croes, Franklin Granadillo, Ced Ride, George Willems, and others. He is also a soloist and a sideman. His festival performances include: The Aruba Jazz and Latin Festival, The Curacao Jazz Festival, The St. Lucia Jazz Festival, The M.E.P. Cultural Festival in he Netherlands,and many others. Delbert lives in Aruba and is currently minister of worship at Bon Nobo Evangelical Church.
